SIMEK

Christos Tzaferos aka Simek

Simek is a visual artist based in Athens, Greece. He began his journey in experimental outdoor work through graffiti in the late 1990s and later studied graphic design at a university in Greece. Over time, he developed a distinctive visual language that blends elements of graphic design, typography, and architecture.

His abstract paintings are featured in private collections and exhibitions around the world, including the USA, Russia, Europe, China, Japan, South Korea, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and Asia. Through the use of color, shape, composition, space, and scale, Simek communicates directly with viewers, drawing inspiration from urban environments, architectural forms, organic forms, typography, and design. His work distills these influences into compositions that convey presence, essence, and emotion.

Simek aims for the viewer to connect emotionally with the work transcending the primary senses to create their own unique impression and experience. In our fast-paced, technology-driven world, he believes it is increasingly important not to lose touch with that deep, primal aptitude and visual language, which is so often drowned out by the noise around us.

He creates both public and interior murals, as well as studio-based works on canvas, paper, and wood (for the moment). His signature aesthetic is defined by a tension between geometric forms, hard lines and sharp edges contrast with soft curves and circular elements, exploring the dynamic interplay of positive and negative space. Often working in monochrome or subdued palettes, he incorporates raw materials while also exploring vibrant color schemes.

He has collaborated with major international brands, festivlas and institutions, including Junya Watanabe, Adidas, Nike, COMME des GARÇONS, Grand Hyatt, Four Seasons Hotel, Amara Hotel, Selina Hotels, One&Only, Workstead, Ucon Acrobatics, Brown University, Onassis Stegi, Benaki Museum, Athens Epidaurus Festival and Wilhelm Hack Museum.

Since 2011, Simek has also collaborated with artist Greg Papagrigoriou under the name Blaqk.
