Born in Athens, Greece (1995), Thanos Fountas is a visual artist based in Athens. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of Ioannina (2017), where he also participated in the Erasmus program at the Universidad de Castilla la Mancha in Cuenca, Spain. He later completed his Master of Fine Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts (2018–2020), where he also undertook an internship in the Painting Workshop. Since 2023, he has been a PhD candidate at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens,conducting research in Art History and Theory.

Fountas’ artistic practice moves between painting and mixed media, exploring the intersections of memory, ideology, and materiality. Through the layering of symbolic imagery and chromatic density, his works interrogate the ways in which collective memory and historical residue inhabit the visual and psychic space of contemporary life.
