Theodore Psychoyos

Theodore Psychoyos aka Theopsy was born in Boston, USA, from Greek parents, both biologists. He moved to Paris at an early age and grew-up in France, Greece and England. He studied piano before attaining a law degree at Sorbonne University while concurrently studying sculpture at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. Despite his virtuosity in large ink drawings and the wooden figures that made him renowned, Theodore has managed to renew constantly his work, evidencing the plurality of the Artist and the multifaceted layers and depth of his artistic expression. These Blue series are depicting mostly love scenes, flowers, pots and spirits. The deliberate simplicity of these themes is based on his attention to the philosopher Rumi but also to a more personal narrative associated to his mother’s garden in the Greek luminous island of Kassos. “I am most interested in what is alive, what has not been labeled, has no self assurance, no recognition; what shivers and tends towards inventing tomorrow.” His work has been hosted most notably by Romeo Gigli at Salon de Mobile Milan in 2001, at the Blackblock of Palais de Tokyo in 2010, at AMP, Athens 2010, Atopos, Benaki Museum, 2011, at “No Respect” Onassis Cultural Center Athens 2014, at « Boite Noire » Pacific Design Center LA, 2017. Psychoyos was awarded the Australian Price for Art in Architecture 2011 for his 19 floors mural at New Acton , Canberra.
